Weekly Market Update

Mortgage rates remained steady last week, showing welcome stability in the face of a complex economic backdrop. Encouragingly, inflation data continues to trend in the right direction — both the headline and core Consumer Price Index rose just 0.1%, below expectations. Producer Price Index numbers also came in lower than anticipated, reinforcing the idea that inflation pressures are easing. Meanwhile, a gradual cooling in the labor market, reflected in a modest rise in jobless claims, suggests the economy is moving toward a more balanced, sustainable pace.
Under normal circumstances, these positive signals would likely drive mortgage rates lower. While some uncertainty remains around trade policy and fiscal matters — such as potential impacts from the tax bill — the overall picture includes strong signs of progress on key economic fronts. Even rising oil prices, influenced by global events, are being closely watched and factored into long-term planning rather than causing immediate disruption.
All things considered, the current environment presents a window of opportunity. With inflation slowing and the Fed carefully weighing its next steps, mortgage rates could begin to move more favorably in the near future — or continue offering the consistency that buyers and homeowners value.
