The Federal Reserve held interest rates steady as expected, and signs point to a more balanced and sustainable pace of economic growth. This creates an encouraging environment for borrowers, as the Fed continues to monitor conditions carefully. While trade and tariff dynamics remain in the background, the broader outlook suggests inflation is manageable and gradually stabilizing.
Recent data reflects a strong and resilient economy with encouraging signals across several fronts. Second-quarter GDP came in above expectations, and consumer confidence is on the rise—both positive indicators of ongoing strength. While the ISM Manufacturing Index dipped slightly, this could help ease inflation pressures and support continued rate stability. Inflation, as measured by PCE, is moving upward at a controlled pace, reflecting steady economic momentum.
The most notable shift came from Friday’s jobs report, which showed a softer labor market and slight uptick in unemployment—both of which may support future Fed rate cuts. With the odds of a rate cut in September now rising, the outlook for interest rates is becoming even more borrower-friendly.
What This Means for You:
This week, mortgage rates are likely to drift downward, creating an excellent opportunity for homebuyers and those looking to refinance. Any further signs of a moderating economy could push rates even lower—making now a great time to take advantage.
